Metal labels can be mounted in four ways. Each has its place — the application drives the choice.
📌 1. 3M Industrial Adhesive
3M 467MP / 468MP double-sided adhesive bonds to clean flat metal, painted or anodised surfaces. Pull strength >50 N. Suitable for indoor and outdoor industrial environments. Easy installation, no drilling required. Standard choice for the majority of nameplates.
📌 2. Screw Mount
Through-holes punched in the plate, machine screws into tapped holes in the equipment. Removable for service. Common on switchgear and electrical enclosures. Plate corners must be reinforced or use grommets.
📌 3. Rivet Mount
Aluminum or stainless rivets through punched holes. Permanent — cannot be removed without destruction. Tamper-resistant. Used on regulated equipment where the type plate must not be removable. Standard for VIN plates and aerospace.
📌 4. Threaded Stud / Weld Mount
Welded studs on the back of the plate engage with tapped holes in the equipment. Used on heavy machinery where adhesive is unreliable due to oil contamination. Requires welding capability at the OEM.
📌 Choosing the Right Method
- Clean indoor / outdoor surfaces → adhesive (cheapest, fastest install)
- Servicing required → screw mount
- Tamper-resistant regulatory → rivet mount
- Oily / hot industrial environments → weld stud
📌 Specifying Mounting
Specify mounting method, hole positions and tolerances on your drawing. We punch / drill / weld per drawing and ship ready-to-install.
